Cultural fest, painting camp begin in Kargil

Srinagar, September 12

The two-day Cultural Festival, which is being organised by the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL), started at Kargil in the Ladakh region today.

The festival and the seven-day All-India Painting Camp was inaugurated by Adviser to Chief Minister Qamar Ali Akhoon. JKAACL secretary Khalid Bashir Ahmad said the academy was also organising a series of cultural and literary programmes, including a heritage exhibition and conferences on Pahari, Urdu, Hindi and Ladakhi languages in the coming weeks.

He said a calendar of important activities had been drawn for the next three months. He said a Kashmir heritage exhibition would be held on September 18 and 19 to showcase the rich legacy of the region through art, craft, musical instruments, archaeology, manuscripts and images.

The exhibition will be held in Srinagar in association with the departments of archives, archaeology, museums and handicrafts and some non-government organisations.

Beemathang (Kargil),September 12(Scoop News)-For the first time in the history of Kargil, All India Painting Camp has been held here Thursday as inaugural event of the 2-day Cultural Festival being organized by J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages.

The Kargil Cultural Festival, besides Painting Camp, features seminar on local languages of Kargil, State level Urdu Mushaira and other related activities.

A large number of people including writers, artists, students and senior officers were present at the inaugural function. In the evening, a colourful cultural programme was organized at the Kargil Auditorium where local artists through their performances enthralled a large audience.

The Camp is attended by 14 artists from different parts of the country including Delhi, Chandigarh, Kanpur, Ghaziabad, and Hyderabad, besides Jammu & Kashmir.

The Camp was inaugurated by Advisor to Chief Minister and legislator, Qamar Ali Akhoon, at the Rgyal Khatoon Forest Park on the banks of the fast flowing Suru River. Akhoon described the Camp as an important cultural event and hoped it would not only give fillip to the visual art in Kargil but also promote the place outside the State. He said the participating artists are like ambassadors, who would go back with fine impressions about Kargil and its people. He hoped that artists will paint the beautiful landscape, culture and life of people here, which will get wider exposure through their works.

Akhoon complimented the Academy for organizing state and national level events as part of the 2-day Kargil Cultural Festival and offered full support of the local administration in the successful conduct of the festival.

Welcoming the participating artists, Secretary Academy, Khalid Bashir Ahmad, said that the All India Painting Camp was an annual activity of the Academy that draws artists from different parts of the country to work at one place for a week and engage in creative activity. He said it goes to the credit of the Academy to have introduced in India the concept of painting camps.

Khalid said that holding of the Camp at Kargil was an important step to bring such a major cultural event to this place for the first time. Last year, he said, the camp was held at Leh. He hoped that the participating artists will like the environs of the camp and will be able to produce the best of their works here.

The Secretary also gave brief account of the major cultural and literary events recently held by the Academy and those in the pipeline. He said heritage exhibitions on Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh as well as language conferences will be held in the coming months.

Kargil: Advisor to Chief Minister Qamar Ali Akhoon inaugurated the seven days All India Painting Camp on 12 September at Rgyal Khatoon Park Biamathang Kargil. Artists from all over India are participating in the Camp which is a part of the Kargil Cultural Festival organized by Jammu and Kashmir, Academy of Arts, Culture and Languages. The camp will continue for the week.

Secretary J&K Academy of Arts, Culture and Languages Khalid Bashir presented the welcome speech and briefed about the initiatives and future plans of the Academy for the development of Art, Culture and allied faculties.

Khalid said that holding of the Camp at Kargil was an important step to bring such a major cultural event to this place for the first time. Last year, he said, the camp was held at Leh. He hopes that the artists will like the environs of the camp and will be able to produce the best of their works here.

Appreciating the efforts of academy Chief Guest at the occasion gave a warm welcome to the Artists and painters from different parts of the country who are participating in the camp, Qamar Ali Akhone said that this camp will portray the rich and special ethos of Kargil in the world, which this remote, border but historically rich and contented district deserves.

He said India is the union of Diversity and the State J&K has special places in this cluster of diversity, but Ladakh Region and specially Kargil have many things unique and unparalleled not only in the country but internationally as well, hence need to be portrayed and showcased for better reasons and artists are the best instruments of communication which will help us.

Later in the evening the Cultural Evening was inaugurated by the Secretary Cultural Academy Khalid Bashir, at Auditorium Hall Kargil. Hundreds of people and school students participated in the Cultural programme.

Different groups from Kargil prominent among them the dynamic Mindok Sar Group of Hardass, Cultural group from Garkone and Bodh Kharboo thrilled the audiences and the guest.

Ajaz Hussain Munshi kept the people connected through his wonderful and educative information about the different cultures and tribes of Kargil during the programme.
